Great to see one of our projects completed and looking great. A great result to achieve planning consent in a conservation area! The Client's have moved in and currently enjoying their new home. We'll be visiting soon and will post further photographs of the external and internal.
We are thrilled with this consent for a radical remodel of this existing bungalow in Hampshire. Some minor negotiations were required with the case officer during the application period in order to obtain a recommendation for approval. The application was subsequently approved under delegated powers on the first attempt. A great result for the Client and another example that demonstrates the value that good design can bring to self builders. It really shows how investing in design at the start of the project pays off.
The proposals elevates a 175m² tired and dated property into a 430m² modern luxury residence. Internally the new first floor storey delivers 4 large double bedrooms, 3 of which benefit from dedicated dressing rooms and en suites. We also managed to obtain consent for a first floor terrace which takes advantage of distant views over the countryside to the rear of the site. Relocating existing bedrooms to the first floor then gave an opportunity to create some fantastic living space on the ground floor.
Really excited with our proposals for this contemporary remodel of an existing bungalow in Buckinghamshire on a challenging site. The proposals are based on retaining the ground floor structure and creating a new first floor storey in prefabricated lightweight timber frame construction.
We are delighted with this consent in Chichester for a contemporary new build dwelling. The proposed 320m² 2 storey dwelling replaces a, existing 120m² single storey bungalow . The design internally provides 4 double bedrooms, 3 en-suites and a family bathroom. We included a sun terrace to the south facing front elevation which also enjoys sea glimpses. Externally a contemporary appearance was welcomed by the planners and with justification based on enhancing the design generally in the area Chichester District Council were happy to support the scheme which was passed by delegated powers.
We are looking forward to supporting the Client through the technical design stage with the self build project commencing later this year.
We are delighted to report we have successfully won a planning appeal to secure consent for this remodel of an existing bungalow in Hamble, Eastleigh. The Local Planning Authority had refused to grant permission as a result of it's harmful impact on character of the area. The appeal inspector disagreed and whilst accepting that the property would become visually different, quoted the following from Paragraph 60 of the National Planning Policy Framework:
"The style of the property would become visually different to the other properties, but as paragraph 60 of the National Planning Policy Framework (the Framework) indicates, planning decisions should not attempt to impose architectural styles or particular tastes and should not stifle innovation, originality or initiative through unsubstantiated requirements to confirm to certain development forms or styles. It has not been shown that the area is so locally distinctive that it is necessary to promote or reinforce such distinctiveness. While it would clearly be different from the other properties in the close vicinity this does not mean that it would be incongruous."
We are delighted for our Client's who had the courage to fight for a scheme they loved. They now have the opportunity to deliver a unique property that will take full advantage of the river views the site offers.
We are absolutely delighted to see this completed project featured in August's Home Building and Renovating. Great end result for a brilliant Client. Fantastic working with adventurous people who really engaged themselves in the self build process. They completely understood what self-build means and the challenges it involves. The rewards however, speak for themselves!

New England style is proving a popular style for remodels. This one is a great example of what can be achieved if enough thought goes into the joinery details to really lift the design and create a property full of character. Borough of Poole agreed and planning was granted at committee along with some great praise from members.
Delighted to report this design for a replacement dwelling has been granted by Broadland District Council. The house sits in a semi-rural setting and the design responds to the local vernacular whilst introducing some modern materials and construction techniques. The Clients, who relocated to be close to family, intend to live in the house for many years. Looking forward to seeing the build commence and will post updates on the blog as construction progresses.
It was great to drop in and see how our Client is enjoying their new home in Dorset today. We can't wait to get the professional photographs completed and published in the next few weeks. It was great working with a self builder that was determined to execute our design and deliver a high quality home. The landscaping and final external look is a great success!
Delighted that this house we designed was shortlisted for Best Timber Frame House in the Build It 2017 Awards! It was up against some tough competition but good to see it recognised by Built It magazine as a contender. This self build project in Essex was for the replacement of a chalet bungalow on a green belt site. We are hoping to visit the completed project very soon and share a glass of bubbly with our client. Their determination to deliver as much of the design intent really helped achieve a high quality finish. If you have a project and are looking for a designer to work with to achieve something special we would love to hear from you!
Great to call in on this completed self build in Winchester. A pleasure to work with a great Client and delivery team. Looking forward to arranging professional photos and posting on the website soon.
Delighted to report that this self build project on a green belt site in Guildford has been awarded Best Off-Site Manufactured Home in the Build It Awards 2017. We worked with the Client on the design which they then used to deliver a prefabricated solution using a German manufacturer. We provided support through the technical design and delivery stages and the end result provided this great home on a challenging site.
We recently pitched this concept for a self build client just outside Bideford, Devon. Many of our featured projects on our website are the end result of a design process we explore with Client's. This includes producing a range of possible design solutions and conceptual ideas. We focus on providing our Client's with fresh ideas which challenge their own in order to find the best possible solution using a collaborative approach. We liked this concept so much that we thought we would share it with you all.

Great to see another design completed and fantastic to see the final results deliver the design intent!
We visited one our projects in Essex recently and whilst its not quite ready for final photographs, I thought I would give a sneak preview of this replacement dwelling in the greenbelt. The house is constructed in a pre-fabricated timber frame structure and the elevation details achieve the original design intent. We will be back in the spring to get the final photos!
Our Client for this property in Dorset got off to great start in 2017, seeing the approval of our design of this bungalow remodel. After a successful pre-application consultation (very unusual!), the householder application sailed through and was granted by delegated powers. We have been instructed to start on the working drawing package so more detailed costs can be obtained. The construction phase is planned to commence later this year.
