PLANNING GRANTED AT APPEAL : SELF BUILD REMODEL IN AMERSHAM, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE
We are pleased to report that this contemporary remodel of a small chalet bungalow was allowed at appeal. The Local Authority rejected the application on grounds that the development was harmful to the character of the area. The appeal inspector stated the following
"that a modern style of property could be integrated into the area and such an approach would be consistent with Government guidance in the National Planning Policy Framework (the Framework) which advises against imposing architectural styles and stifling innovation or requiring conformity to certain development forms or styles."
"I conclude that it would harmonise well with the two different built forms and, so, respect and complement the different characteristics of the area and add interest and contribute positively to the existing varied street scene."
We think this shows that applicants should challenge decisions made by Local Authorities that take a cautious approach to development such as this.
